It’s been almost two decades since Miranda Priestly delivered her searing critique of Andy Sachs’s Cerulean blue skirt, but The Devil Wears Prada and all its meme-worthy moments continue to live rent-free in viewers’ heads. Now, after years of fans calling for a sequel and analyzing the 2006 comedy from a modern-day lens (was Nate the villain all along?), it looks like Miranda Priestly wasn’t really ready to say, “That’s all.” According to multiple sources, a Devil Wears Prada sequel is reportedly in the works at Disney—and many original faces have already signed on to the upcoming project.
Gird your loins, because Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt could be in talks to reprise their roles as Runway magazine’s editor-in-chief and her Paris-loving assistant, according to Puck. The publication, which originally reported the news, also says the original film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna has been tapped to work on the project, as well as the producer of the original movie, Wendy Finerman. The 2006 movie’s original director David Frankel is also in talks to work on the sequel, per Deadline. A release date for the Devil Wears Prada sequel has not been shared yet.

Instead of taking place in the golden heyday of magazines like its predecessor, the Devil Wears Prada sequel will follow how Miranda Priestly navigates the decline of publishing and the publication’s mounting financial difficulties—while having to reconnect with a character from her past.
Variety reports, “The storyline reportedly follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

While it sounds like Streep and Blunt’s characters might be making a return based on the storyline, it hasn’t been confirmed what other characters could be back for a second round. Anne Hathaway–who played a wannabe journalist who got stuck working under the boss from hell in the original movie–has stayed mum on a potential return, as has Stanley Tucci, who delivered some of the Devil Wears Prada’s most iconic lines as Nigel.
However, considering all the grudges Emily has probably accumulated from working under Miranda Priestly’s thumb, especially that missed trip to Paris, it sounds like fans are in for a slightly different power dynamic, but with more unforgettable quotes, amazing fashion, and withering glances.
